2 days agoIts been a bit of a whirlwind these last five months. I took a job in SF and moved into a house where i dont have a computer setup, so I’m playing with a psychedelic heavy blues group in Oakland called Brotherman and the Messengers. I’ll post some practice recordings and have videos soon. Havent been listening to much music, but going to a lot of shows and meeting a bunch of amazing musicians, who I plan on profiling soon.
5 days agoVV killing it with a freestyle + psychedelic animations. So damn prolific, just amazing.

The Growlers — Someone Somthing Jr. — Just found about this band from Orange County, and have been listening to it all day. The whole thing sounds very stylish and effortless, all the while more complex than your average reverb-pedal-having, slide-using, garage rockers.

6 months agoSaw the Entrance Band in Oakland last night. The show started a little slow with a dude with guitar (DWG) kind of noodling in a Durutti Column meets Ash Ra Tempel kind of way for too long, but they absolutely tore the place down. They’re a power trio, where each member is exceptional. All new songs, and its on par with the rest of their output. They opened with a cover of Love’s “A House is Not A Motel”. This isn’t from last night, but sounds a lot better that if I were to record it myself, so deal.
6 months agoKool A.D. — State of Emergency This is from Victor Vazquez’s of Das Racist’s recent digital mix/ep Hyphy Ballads. Both DR member do solo tracks, and always produce a few overlooked gems. This track touches on international social struggles, albeit with an absurdist bent. Sounds like he wrote and produced this after dropping by OWS some rainy night. Yeah, current power structures are greedy, callous, and cruel, but the activists are doing what they can to try to turn things around. The sound captures the seemingly conflicting mix of desperation and invigorating idealism , Download the ep here and follow them on Tumblr/twitter/everything.
6 months agoJodorowski interview from a hotel room in NYC. He rails on americans and occupy for not changing to the times from within. He’s a Chilean-born, self described “citizen of the world”, artist, and director. His films from the late 60’s and early 70’s, Holy Mountain, and El Topo take your mind to the antipodal regions through sensory and symbolic overload.
6 months agoNeighbors — I’m a Building, I’m on Fire. Came across this sweet little jam while on Spotify. Check me out there @ elohimite.
Neighbors seem to be a candid indie-pop group, not trying to reinvent anything, just a safe place for when you’ve had enough experimental nonsense for the day. The lyrics are a take on the Talking Heads ‘77 track “Building on Fire”, which is a great tune presumably about personal relationships experiencing centrifuge.
